Seaview Washington Beach Trip June 30, 2008

Jeff, Ethan, and I have just returned from a trip with Jeff’s family to Seaview Washington. We all had a great time and enjoyed the awesome weather while we were there. It was pretty windy however but that led to great kite flying weather. Ethan also enjoyed nibbling on sand and was pretty much covered by the time we left the beach.

When we returned home yesterday we were greated by a super hot house so Ethan’s air conditioner was plugged in and in an hour or so we were all hanging out in his room for most of the night. I have a feeling if the hot weather persists we will be hanging out in his room a lot this summer. :)

We also purchased Ethan a baby pool which squirts water out of different parts of it which he thoroughly enjoyed.

Night out on the town… June 23, 2008

Yesterday evening Jeff and I ventured out for a night on the town to go see Avenue Q at The Paramount Theater. What a great show! It is a bit risque but it was extremely funny and the actors were very good, especially the woman who sang for Kate Monster. Our seats were relatively good, we were right in the center of the theater so we had the perfect view of the stage. The show is about a guy that just graduated from college and trying to find his purpose in life. I recommend seeing this show if it comes back through town again but you must have a sense of humor and not be offended easily.

Before going to the show we went to dinner at Wild Ginger which was also fantastic. I had never been there before but always wanted to go so I figured it would be a perfect place. We started off with their satay plates (peasants chicken and street hawker beef) and then for our main course we split a couple of little plates. We had the Wild Ginger Fragrant Duck which are served in these little buns with plum sauce. I am not a fan of duck but these were excellent. We also had a Seven Flavor Beef and Bok Choy with garlic. For dessert we tried there special which was a nectarine crisp made with pistachio’s. Yum, yum! I highly recommend this restaurant if you enjoy thai food.

Swimming Fun. June 22, 2008

This weekend has been a lot of firsts for Ethan, and today was no exception. We decided this afternoon to venture to Golds Gym and hit the pool for the first time since it was family swim. We got Ethan into his special swim diaper and cool new Bermuda shorts and hit the water in full force.

At first Ethan did not know what to expect. He was excited at the possibilies but this was nothing like his bath tub at home so it took a while to sink in that he was in water. By the time he got used to the pool temperature he seemed to enjoy himself. He especially liked the noodle toy that they had and liked to cling to it like a life float the entire time.

And this is what happened when mom took the noodle away…

While we were there we also signed him up for baby swim lessons which start in August. I’m sure we’ll make a couple more trips to the pool before then. Especially on those hopefully soon to come hot and sunny days!

First Haircut! June 21, 2008

Ethan got his first professional haircut this afternoon at the Brat Pack in Redmond. He got to sit on his very own horse and watch Thomas the Train cartoons and pillage through a bucket full of toys. He was extremely good about getting his haircut and kept relatively still. All in all it was a good first haircutting experience for him and I have to admit the cut was better than when I tried to give him one.

Afterwards, we all went out to lunch at The Coho Cafe to celebrate. Ethan actually got to have his own meal which was grilled cheese and fruit and he actually finished half of the sandwich which was amazing. To many wich’s in that sentence.  Jeff gave Ethan a taste of his first lemon and you can see the results below.

Ear infections. Oh my! June 19, 2008

For the past week or so Ethan has been having a cough and runny nose so Jeff decided this morning to take the little guy to the doctor. Turns out that he has a small ear infection which was a surprise even to the doctor since he was in such a good mood during the appointment. Luckily Jeff made the decision to take him, so now he’s got a prescription to help it go away. Plus, Ethan enjoyed the doctor’s office since he got to play with the crinkly paper that they line the tables with.

Also, we found out that Ethan is not a fan of spaghetti. We had tried feeding him spaghetti the past couple of nights and most of it landed all over his bib and hair. I thought this would be the one food that he was really going to like, but I guess I was incredibly wrong. He did enjoy his spinach and cheese ravioli however. Go figure!

The Inn at Langley on Whidbey Island June 15, 2008

On Friday Jeff and I got in the car and started driving to a surprise destination that Jeff had put together. We took the ferry over to Whidbey Island and to our final destination which was The Inn at Langley. This place was a fantastic getaway retreat right on the beach and we had a balcony which overlooked the water and at night you could even hear the waves crashing against the rocks. They had a bottle of wine waiting in our room when we got there and a huge jacuzzi tub that overlooked the water. I was in heaven! Our room also had a fireplace which we used a couple of times since at night it was a little chilly.

After we unpacked, we headed to the town of Langley and ventured through the shops. We visited a wine store which directed us to a Swiss bakery that was only open when they wanted to be open because the chef spent a great deal of time working on chartered boats. We picked up this wonderful lemon roll, a cream puff, and an eclair.  That evening we ended up going to a local pizza parlor and had some fantastic pizza. As we were leaving the restaurant there was a traveling band playing instruments made of a wash tub, a saw, and some other home made instruments. As we were leaving they actually played the first song that we danced to at our wedding.

On Saturday we woke up and Jeff had made reservations for two spa appointments at the Spa Essencia. We each got a massage which was fantastic. They even gave us scented oils to take home as well which was a lavendar oil and a citrus oil, both locally made on the island. Then we ventured to the Chocolate Flower Farm which grows chocolate scented flowers which is a chocolate lovers dream. I purchased some seeds to plant of my own for next Spring.

After the farm we drove over to the Whidbey Island Winery and had some tastings which included Rhubarb wine which I purchased. Jeff and Courtney, if you are reading this we’ll have to have you guys over to try it. I think you would like it!

In the evening Jeff and I visited the restaurant at the Inn which is operated by Chef Matt Costello, for a six course wine paired dinner. We had our taste buds tested with all sorts of flavors and a fabulous meal with great wine. Most of the tables had a view of the kitchen so you were able to see the food being prepared before your very own eyes.  All in all we had a fantastic anniversary and plan to visit again for a future anniversary!

Happy Anniversary Jeff! I love you tons and cannot wait to celebrate many more. :)

So the day has finally come where we are leaving on our Mystery Trip. Jeff has something planned to celebrate our 7 year wedding anniversary and I’m not sure what exactly it is, hence “mystery trip”. I was just told to pack a suitcase and we’ll be back on Sunday.

Grandma Alison has graciously offered to watch Ethan over the weekend. Hopefully she will be OK with us calling and checking on him 5 times a day. ;) I’ll blog about our trip when I return.

Adios!

Crazy Weather… June 10, 2008

I have tried to not post (complain) about our crazy weather recently but last night took the cake. When I left work yesterday to pick up Ethan it was raining horses and cows. There was so much rain coming down I had to turn on my wipers to extreme.

Later on in the evening, I decided to get some exercise and use my Wii Fit.  I was all jazzed to step on when ten minutes into my workout the power goes out due to the crazy tornado winds that were swirling around our house. The power was out for about 4 hours so Jeff and I were able to catch up on reading by the glow of the flashlight. However, we lost our spying instruments to monitor Ethan so that was not so great.

So much for working out and trying to stay in shape. Plus, I was at work at 5:30 this morning so it is going to be a long day. Hopefully I’m able to stay awake until I go home at 4.
