Ethan on the carousel.

The sun was shining so we decided to venture to the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium. We all jumped in the car and headed out, Ethan sleeping the whole car ride. Once we arrived we jumped out of the car and headed to the entrance gate. I have never been to this zoo but it was such a treat. Ethan got to ride the carousel for the first time and hung on for dear life until he realized that he was having fun. We also saw Beluga Whales, Walrus, Otters, Tigers, Elephants, and many other animals. We will be making a trip back again in the summer for sure!

I thought that I had reached my quota for getting sick, but yet again, the dreaded sore throat and congestion has returned. Unfortunately a cough also decided to visit as well and is terrible, especially when you have a sleeping baby in the house that you don’t want to wake up. NyQuil has been my friend for the past couple of nights to keep the cough at bay, but our friendship has to come to an end. I am sorry cold but I am literally sick of you so please go and bug somebody else which does not include anyone in my household. :)

Cupcakes! February 2, 2008

Yesterday at work a co-worker brought in Groundhog’s Day Cupcakes. I had not known that Groundhog’s Day was today and had never had a cupcake made especially for this day but it was fantastic. It was a vegan cupcake, except for the frosting, but it was incredibly tasty.  This caused me to want to investigate more into the world of cupcakes. Being a mom now I figured that this may be a good skill to have, to be able to make lots of cupcakes for birthdays and bake sales. Plus who doesn’t love a good cupcake. I ordered a couple of books on this topic. The first is Crazy About Cupcakes by Krystina Castella. The second book is More From Magnolia: Recipes from the World Famous Bakery and Allysa Torey’s Home Kitchen by Allysa Torey. I should be receiving both books some time next week and I cannot wait to try these recipes out. Yummy!

The Art of Solid Foods February 1, 2008

Ethan has been introduced to the world of solid foods for about three weeks and he has taken to it like a champ. We started him on plain old rice cereal. The first bite he did not know what to think. He sat there with a confused look on his face, but this probably had to do with the fact that dad was there with the video camera so I don’t blame him. But since then he has been a pro. Like Jeff said, its like he was born to do this. We have now moved on to oatmeal. I have personally tasted both and the oatmeal is by far the better choice. Since we have switched to the oatmeal Ethan sits with his mouth open while we make it. I find this rather amusing. He also has the chewing motion down and once he is finished he opens his mouth for more. Next week we will be moving on to veggies which I am sure is another adventure to be had, both in and out.
